What is Benoquin Cream?
Benoquin Cream contains monobenzone (quinone mono benzyl ester), a water-soluble main active ingredient containing sodium lauryl sulfate, purified water, propylene glycol, cetyl alcohol, and white wax.
How does Benoquin Cream work?
Benoquin Cream contains monobenzone, which causes the formation of free radicals in the skin and destroys the remaining melanocytes. The monobenzone in Benoquin also works by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosine, which is involved in the production of melanin, the pigment that gives skin color. As the amount of melanin produced decreases, areas of normal skin gradually lighten in order to adapt to areas of fair skin caused by vitiligo.
What is the use of Benoquin Cream?
Vitiligo
Benoquin Cream is used for skin depigmentation as a treatment for diffuse vitiligo, a skin condition in which uneven areas of the skin covering about 50% of the body’s surface become discolored and white. It is caused by the destruction of pigment-producing cells called melanocytes.
Benoquin is used as a skin brightener for people with vitiligo and suppresses discoloration until the pigmented spots of the skin match the discolored areas of the skin. The discoloration of the skin is irreversible and makes the skin sensitive to sunburn.
